As Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Carin Rockind is responsible for regional business attraction branding and targeted marketing programs that promote Northeast Ohio’s assets and benefits for business expansion. In addition, she is responsible for encouraging engagement in regional economic development among Northeast Ohio’s business and community leadership. She is one of the founding members and was instrumental in developing Cleveland Plus, Northeast Ohio’s marketing and brand campaign.

Ms. Rockind brings nearly 15 years of marketing communications and public relations experience to Team NEO and Cleveland Plus Business. She specializes in building strategic marketing communications that incorporate traditional and non-traditional mediums to accomplish business objectives. Prior to joining Team NEO, she served as communications manager for Alcoa Wheel Products, where she developed and managed internal communications, public relations, community relations, and marketing communications for the global, billion-dollar division of Alcoa Inc.

Ms. Rockind is also an adjunct professor of marketing communications, serving as a guest lecturer in Kent State University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications, and as an Advertising and Promotions instructor at the Virginia Marti College of Art and Design.

Ms. Rockind received her Bachelors in Communications and Bachelors in English Literature from the University of Michigan.

Howard W. Blackburn, Jr., MA, SPHR is Senior Vice President, Director of Human Resources for Community Trust Bank, Inc. Community Trust Bank, Inc., headquartered in Pikeville, Kentucky, the lead subsidiary of Community Trust Bancorp, Inc. a $3.0 billion bank holding company and Kentucky’s second largest in-state based bank holding company.

A North Carolina native, Howard received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications Art, with a major in Media Advertising, from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina and a Master of Arts Degree in Adult and Higher Education from Morehead State University.

In his current position, Howard is responsible for the corporate-wide administration of employee benefits, payroll, training, and workforce development. With Community Trust Bank, Inc. since 1993, Howard has been in banking since 1977 holding various management positions in marketing and training with banking companies in North Carolina and Tennessee.

Howard is Past-President of the Gateway Regional Chapter of the Kentucky Society of Human Resource Management (KYSHRM), serves on the KYSHRM State Council, and is the Health Care Reform Director for 2010. He serves as a director for the Eastern Kentucky Workforce Investment Board, and is a member of the Morehead State University Prestonsburg Campus and National College Advisory Boards and the Big Sandy Region P-16 Council.

An Eagle Scout, Howard is a former Scoutmaster of Troop 10 in Pikeville, Kentucky. He is married to Ruth Bryan Blackburn and they have two children and a granddaughter.

President, ERC



Pat Perry is President of ERC and is responsible for the organization’s overall operations and strategic direction. ERC is Northeast Ohio's largest organization dedicated to HR and workplace related services, practices, research and programs. The organization currently serves over 1,300 clients in 22 Northeast Ohio counties. ERC, named one of Northeast Ohio’s “Visionary Organizations” by SBN has tripled in size since 1998 now offering over 100 different HR and workplace related services to organizations of any size in any industry.

Prior to ERC, Pat served as a Director with AIM Executive (later acquired by Spherion) and represented the firm’s executive search, recruiting, outplacement and technical staffing services. Pat played a key role in growing the company from $4 million to $38 million in revenue, 40 employees to 350 employees and 4 to 50 locations in seven (7) years. Prior to his employment with AIM, Pat served as Director of Human Resources for University Mednet. Previously Pat was with KPMG Peat Marwick as a Human Resources Consultant.

Pat received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Dayton and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Bowling Green State University. Pat earned the Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the Society for Human Resource Management, the Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC) certification from the National Association of Personnel Consultants and the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation. Pat has served as an adjunct faculty member for Lakeland Community College, Cleveland State University and Baldwin Wallace College.

Pat has served as a Board Member for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Lake County Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), the Leadership Lake County Alumni Association, Mentor Chamber of Commerce and Lake Educational Assistance Foundation. Pat chaired the Northern Ohio Human Resources Conference (NOHRC) for Cleveland SHRM (CSHRM), founded and chaired the Northern Ohio Human Resources Charity Golf Classic for three years and served as President of Lake County SHRM. Pat was also named as CSHRM’s and the Lake/Geauga SHRM Chapter’s member of the year in 1996 – the first human resource professional in the U.S. ever to be recognized by two separate SHRM chapters in the same year.

Pat was named Northeast Ohio’s “Best Boss” by Inside Business Magazine and as one of America’s Best Bosses for 2006 by Fortune Small Business Magazine and Winning Workplaces. He is currently working on his first book, focused on lessons learned from great workplaces. In addition, Pat is the architect for the nationally acclaimed NorthCoast 99 program ( www.northcoast99.org ), which annually recognizes Northeast Ohio’s 99 best workplaces. In addition, Pat is the co-architect of the regionally recognized ERC Health ( www.erchealth.com ) program now offered throughout Ohio and Michigan.

He is a graduate of the Leadership Lake County program, and has been a Lake and Cuyahoga County United Way volunteer. He is a frequent speaker and has had over 200 business, workplace and sales management articles published in various publications including Crain’s Cleveland Business, The Plain Dealer, The News Herald, Lake County Business Journal, Akron Business Magazine, SBN and is the HR columnist for Inside Business Magazine.

Stephanie Snow Werren, Development Director, is responsible for annual fund raising, the sponsorship campaign and alumni programming. Stephanie brings a broad background in sales and community volunteerism to her position. Stephanie is a 2008 recipient of the ystark Twenty under 40 award for volunteerism and was named the Malone University Graduate School Alumna of the Year in 2009.

A Canton native, Werren holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Malone College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science/international studies from Miami University. Stephanie resides in Canton with her husband Curt, a graduate of the 13th class, and their triplets Jack, Hannah, and Grace.

Hans focuses his practice on representing public and private employers in all areas of labor and employment law, including labor negotiations, arbitrations, unfair labor practice proceedings, union election campaigns and employment discrimination lawsuits. Promoted to Senior Vice President in 2008, Kristie manages and directs all airport marketing and communication programs, including: air service development, branding, advertising, media relations, social media, and internal and external communications. Kristie is often invited to speak at local, regional and national conferences and forums about airport marketing, branding and social media. Kristie authors "It's a Trip," a popular airport blog and can be found on Twitter at CAKristie.

 

In addition to her airport duties, Kristie serves on the Board of Directors of the Air Carrier Association of America, the Akron AAA, the Executive Marketing Forum, the Cleveland+ Regional Marketing Alliance, and the Walsh University Business Advisory Council. She is also a Leadership Akron graduate. Additionally, Kristie co-chairs the stewardship and communication committees at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Akron.

 

She joined the airport staff in 1996 as Director of Marketing. Prior to joining the airport, Kristie worked for the Greater Akron Chamber and the State of Michigan, International Affairs division.

 

Kristie was honored as a 2008 Distinguished Sales and Marketing professional by Sales and Marketing Executives of Cleveland; was selected as one of 30 for the Future, recognizing today's young leaders in Northeastern Ohio in 2007; and Crain’s Cleveland Business included Kristie in their 40 Under 40 list of upcoming executives in Northeast Ohio in 2005.
